Gruissem began playing live tournaments in 2009. He finished 28th in the 2011 World Series of Poker, earning over $240,000. Gruissem’s biggest tournament cashes include winning the 2014 European Poker Tour €25,000 High Roller for $1,378,059.

Philip plays online under the nickname philbort. As of 2016, Gruissem’s live tournament winnings exceeded $10,000,000, placing him 4th on the list of all-time top German players behind Feodor Holz, Ole Schemion and Tobias Reinkemeier.

Gruysem was born in Germany and currently lives in London. Along with fellow poker players Igor Kurganov and Liv Boeree, he co-founded the charity Raising for Effective Giving. Philip continues to play online poker from his current home. When he takes a break from poker, he enjoys the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
