Poker is a game that has long been one of the most popular card games worldwide. Poker combines a fascinating process, simple rules, and a wide range of emotions experienced during the game. However, to become a professional, it takes a lot of time to develop your skills.
We decided to help newcomers understand their new hobby. Let’s start with the general.
The essence of poker
Despite several popular varieties of poker (we’ll tell you about all of them later), the goal of each game is as follows:
- Collect the highest combination among all players at the table.
- Win all bets before the cards are revealed or when all other players fold.
Poker uses a deck of 52 cards. The seniority of cards: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, J, Q, K, A. Players at the table receive from two personal cards (depends on the type of game), and 5 common cards are laid out on the table in several stages. The player’s goal is either to defeat his opponents when they reveal their personal cards after the 5 Community Cards have been dealt, or to have all other players discard their cards at any stage of the game.
Rules of the table
Every hand in poker begins with a mandatory bet: two players place mandatory bets – the small blind and the big blind. The small blind is half the size of the big blind. These bets are necessary so that the hand participants have something to fight for. The size of the blinds is determined by the limit at which the game is being played at the table. The higher the limit, the bigger the blinds.
After that, each player is dealt his cards (recall that the number of cards depends on the type of game), from this point the game begins. Players have the opportunity to make several different actions throughout the game:
- A FOLD is a refusal to continue fighting for the pot in response to the actions of your opponent(s). In this case, the player discards his cards and they leave the game to be discarded. The player can no longer participate in this deal.
- CHECK – if no one has bet before, a player may check, it does not mean abandoning the fight for the pot, it is only a refusal of the opportunity to bet in the current round.
- BET – a player sets the price for the continuation of the game. The players sitting after him decide what to do: to fold, call or raise again. The minimum bet in the game is the big blind.
- Call – If a bet has been made in the current round, the player may call it.
- RACE – If a bet has been made at the table, the player may raise it by making a Raise. To do this, he must place a bet that exceeds the last player’s bet.
