The main task of a poker player is to put together a winning combination. Every beginner must first learn the rules and combinations of the kind of poker he is going to play. However, it is important for the player not only to collect certain cards in his hands, but also to determine their seniority and chances of winning. Let’s go in order.

Senior Card

The highest card in poker is the weakest combination. Seniority goes in ascending order from deuce to ace, so the highest card in poker without a combination will always be an ace. Despite this hand’s weakness, it’s still possible to win a hand with it. This is the case if no player has a better hand. In this case, the hand that has the higher value cards wins, which is what gives it its name.

Pair

Two cards of the same value. The highest poker hand is a pair of aces, and the lowest a pair of twos. If both players have a pair combination, the player with the higher (stronger) pair wins.

Two pairs

Two cards of one value and two cards of another value. Otherwise, the combination is sometimes called “doper”. If the players have a combination of two pairs, they are compared, and the winner is the one whose highest pair is higher. The combination of three pairs in poker does not exist! If you have a choice of 3 pairs, the two strongest pairs of hands will be taken.

Set or Trips (Three)

Three cards of the same value. Or more simply, any three cards of the same value, for example 222. Usually when a player has a pocket pair and receives another card of the same value on the table, this is called a set, and when he only has one of three cards, this hand is called a triple. If the players on the showdown have a set and the other has a trip, the player with the set wins. Two sets will be compared to each other by the seniority of cards, if the players have two sets of cards of the same value, the winner will be determined by the kicker.

Street

Five cards in a row by seniority. The suits are different. A straight in poker is the first combination, where all five cards are necessarily involved. If two players have a straight combination, then the one, whose combination is higher, wins.

In this case, an Ace can be the highest card in the combination, as well as the lowest.

Flash

Five cards of the same suit. The sequence can be any. If both players have a Flush, the player with the highest card in the combination wins.

Full House

Three cards of the same value and a pair of any two cards. Or to put it simply, it’s a combination of a three and a pair. In English the name of this combination means “full house”. If both players have a Full House, the player whose three of the combination is the highest wins.

Four of a kind

Four cards of the same value. Or to put it simply, four of the same card. If two players have the same square, the one with the higher kicker (the fifth card) wins.

Street Flush

Any five cards in a row of the same suit. If two players have a straight flush, the one with the last card higher wins.

Royal Flush

Ace, King, Queen, Jack, and Ten of one suit. It is essentially a one-suit high straight. Royal Flush combination is the rarest and strongest hand in poker, there will never be two royal flushes in one hand, so the player who has collected this combination is a guaranteed winner of the deal. The only possible exception is when the royal flush is formed entirely from the common cards on the table, in which case all the players in the deal will simply divide the pot between them.
